It is the main source of earning livelihood of the people. Large number of the population is also engaged in agro-based activities. Agriculture meets the foods requirements of large population of India. It ensures food security for the country. The productivity of the land has increased through the years. Punjab government has developed some of the techniques which the developed countries have been using for advanced agriculture technologies.

Punjab chief minister approved the modalities to establish farmers’ advisory body, Punjab Kisan Vikas Chamber (PKVC), so that farmers can have a tell and share their views related to agricultural activities in the policies and programmes . The state government would initially give funds to run the chamber till it became fully self-sustainable. It will provide better results for farmers to sort all agricultural issues. This would help the chamber contest their claims vigorously with the central and state governments in a meaningful and result-oriented manner.

Agriculture pattern is changing are gradually growing more importance in line with domestic demands and export requirements. Farmers have been provided assistance for owning agricultural activities. Government is taking every manner to promote rural development.
