Education
is no less than a heart and soul for achieving the objective of employment,
human resource development and bringing in the much needed change in social
environment. All these factors lead to build a progressive nation through
efficient use of resources. Punjab is one state that follows effective
education system. Recently with the constant efforts by State Govt, Punjab is
declared as the top state in education sector in the nation on various
parameters like opening of new schools, educational quality, appointment of new
staff, school facilities etc.
An
ideal education cultivates knowledge, skill, positive approach, social
awareness and sense of responsibility towards rights and duties. It also
imparts the inner strength to face oppression, humiliation and inequality.
Punjab
has fared well in reducing the gap between male and female literacy. Female
literacy rate in Punjab is considerably higher than that of many other states
in India. The major reason for the same could be the quality of educational
facilities extended by the authorities in the area. The availability of primary
school is high. It is an outcome of the culture and nature of work of the
people in Punjab.
The
Punjab Govt. has given due consideration to improve the literacy rate of the
Scheduled Castes and especially females in the defined pockets. It believes that elementary education is the
most imperative stage of education spanning the first eight years of schooling.
It lays down the foundation stone for the personality, attitudes, social
confidence, learning skills, cultural habits, communicating capabilities of
children. The basic skills of reading, writing and learning are sharpened at
this stage. Values are attributed and environmental consciousness is sharpened.
Education
is essential to strengthen the fabric of democracy through availing equal
opportunities to all for the development of their inherent individual
potential. The choice of joining different courses including science, commerce
and mathematics facilitate the entry of students into the competitive world of
work.
The
present Punjab education scenario provides an overview of the quantitative and
qualitative status of school education in the state. The major variables
include: the growth of institutions by levels, enrollment rate, and quality of
academic excellence, non-formal education and infrastructure.
In nutshell, there is no doubt that Punjab is
at the most prestigious position with respect to literacy and education. The
credit goes to the never-ending force and endeavors of the State Govt.,
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD).
