Installation of dryers for increase in production of maize




Maize is indigenous plant. It is also called corn, which is an important food crop of poor people in the Great Plains and in the hilly and of the Northern part. It is also used for making glucose and starch. Maize is the third largest planted crop after wheat and rice. It is an important food staple. Maize is a multi-seasonal crop i.e. it is harvested in both rabi and kharif season. It feeds businesses the most profitable are poultry-feed from maize and ethanol from maize stover.

For increasing in the productivity of kharif maize, the Punjab  government has lead an event organizing  for making timely arrangement of hybrid seeds of high production of varieties to the farmers.

The State Government has fixed a target to bring 2 lakh hectares under kharif maize in Punjab for providing with the additional source of income to the farmers. To maintain proper moisture for maize production government have taken an excellent steps. For the increase production of maize the Punjab Government has installed seven big dryers and small dryers costing in the state at a total cost of Rs 52.85 crore and Rs 6 lakh each respectively. They are also being provided to villages to farmers on 50% subsidy and selected a total of 70 blocks in 14 districts. In this way we would be utilizing whole of the maize plant material and providing the farmers with a much better returns that what they are getting at present. The land area devoted to maize production has also increased significantly higher. There is a lot of growth production of land cultivation. And generally reducing the risk to farmers caused by climate change.
